Billionaire Rapper, Ye FKA Kanye West agrees to buy “Parler” On Monday, the social network Parler claimed that American artist Kanye West had stated his desire to purchase the site, which has garnered appeal among US conservatives. “In a society when conservative beliefs are deemed controversial, we must ensure that we have the freedom to openly express ourselves,” the rapper and fashion mogul, now known as Ye, said in a statement released by Parler. The amount of the transaction, which is slated to conclude in the fourth quarter of 2022, was not disclosed. Earlier this month, Instagram and Twitter suspended West’s accounts due to anti-Semitic statements. Parler’s executive director, George Farmer, stated that the agreement will “transform the way the world thinks about free expression.” “Ye is making a game-changing move into the free speech media sphere and will never have to worry about getting banned from social media again,” he added. Parler, which was launched in 2018, quickly became a shelter for followers of former US President Donald Trump and far-right users who claim to have been restricted by other social media sites such as Twitter. However, Parler was removed from the Apple and Google online marketplaces and effectively shut down when Amazon Web Services severed ties over allegations that the platform failed to prevent incitement of violence in advance of the January 6, 2021 siege of the US Capitol. Google reinstated Parler in its Play Store last month, more than a year after it was banned. The network bills itself as “a leading force in the struggle against Big Tech, Big Government, censorship, and cancellation culture.”
