University Lecturers to hold emergency meeting to discuss suspension of ongoing strike The striking Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, will hold an emergency National Executive Council, NEC meeting on Thursday, October 13, to assess recent events, particularly the federal government’s good reaction to its demands. Ahead of the meeting, the union’s leadership has directed its zonal chapters to collect members’ ballots and report the results to the meeting, which will be held in Abuja on Thursday. The conclusion of Thursday’s meeting would result in the strike being called off late Thursday or early Friday morning. On Monday, September 10, the union’s leadership met with the leadership of the House of Representatives and hinted at calling off the eight-month-long strike in the coming days.
