The Chief Medical Director of UCH in Ibadan raises alarm over the mass resignation of clinical officers 600 healthcare professionals have left Nigeria’s top tertiary medical centre, the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, in the past year. At least 15 nurses, doctors, and pharmacists leave UCH each week, among others. Clinical staff resignations were verified on Monday by Prof. Abiodun Otegbayo, Chief Medical Director (CMD) of UCH. He said that “every week, I signed the resignation letters of 15 hospital employees, most of them were clinicians, such as nurses, doctors, and pharmacists.” As a result of the large migration of health professionals, the CMD advocated for the elimination of barriers in replacing the personnel. At a press conference held on Monday in Ibadan to commemorate the 65th anniversary of UCH’s Founder’s Day, Otegbayo made the announcement. According to him, there is a severe lack of labour due to a number of push and pull issues, including low worker welfare and insecurity, among others. According to Otegbayo, UCH has made a commitment to providing quality healthcare in Nigeria and the West African Sub-region. The institution will keep moving forward, according to the chief medical director, since infrastructure and facilities were being renovated in addition to human capital development. He praised the staff members of the facility for their commitment to improving the facility by giving their all and treating the patients with dignity. In order to enhance clinical services, Otegbayo stated that the hospital has purchased two sets of Auto Clave, 64-Slice CT equipment as well as two mammography machines. In addition to developing the physical infrastructure, the government is also bringing in cutting-edge machinery to improve service delivery. ...
