Lecturer Commits Suicide Over Financial Difficulties
University lecturer commits suicide after battling with financial difficulties. According to reports, a data entry employee at the University of Benin (UNIBEN) killed himself due to his inability to manage his finances. According to reports, Prince Carter Oshodin committed suicide on Friday, September 9, in the Umelu Community in Benin City’s Upper Sakponba neighborhood. The dead belonged to the Non-Academic Staff Union, which just ended its strike; nevertheless, the members have not yet received their paychecks. In a Facebook post from 2017, Oshodin advised individuals who work in the public sector to stick it out because circumstances could improve. He stated: “Another thing to keep in mind is that working for the government makes you lose hope since the pay is so low. Thank you. I am aware of a woman who began her career in 1986 with N125 and is currently making over N300,000 in 2017. Due to the fact that even a tiny drop of water may become an enormous ocean, you must be careful in what you are doing.” An anonymous university professor responding to the situation told Punch that it is disappointing that individuals who called off their strike have still not received payment from the government. “He did really commit suicide because of a lack of funds. He was said to have been offering others coping mechanisms even a few months prior, however he committed himself, putting his family in an even worse situation “Apparently, the professor told Sun News. “Since going on strike, we have not received any compensation. The non-academic staff members who returned on September 10th have not yet received any compensation.” A former coworker of the late Oshodin, who only went by the name Edward, said that the dead bemoaned his inability to pay his debts and the rising cost of supporting his two daughters’ education on his Facebook page. “In a message on his Facebook the day before his suicide, he said he was having trouble making ends meet and couldn’t afford to send his two young girls to school. It’s a terrible scenario “said he.
