A man who is a trader in Ondo State has been arraigned for abducting his ex-wife For allegedly abducting his ex-girlfriend, Omowumi Tiamiyu, the police in Ondo State have charged a man, Muritala Najimu, before a magistrate’s court in Akure, the state’s capital. The defendant, a 27-year-old man, was accused of committing the crime on September 24, 2022, about 8:30 p.m. in the state’s Akoko North-East Local Government Area. He was charged with two offences that had kidnapping in the title. The victim was kidnapped by the defendant and taken to an undisclosed location, the police prosecutor, Mr. Martins Olowofeso, said to the court during the arraignment. The charges stated, in part, “That on September 24, 2022, around 8:30 p.m. at Kare Akoko, in the Ondo State Magisterial District, you, Muritala Najimu, and others at large did conspire to commit felony, namely kidnapping, thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 516A of the Criminal Code Cap, 37.Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, Nigeria, 2006. That you, Muritala Najimu, and other fugitives “did kidnap one Omowumi Tiamiyu, 22, to an unknown location on the same date, time, and place, in the aforementioned magisterial district, while armed with a gun and other offensive weapons, thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 3 (A&B) of the Ondo State Anti-kidnapping and Anti-Abduction Laws (Special Provision) 2010 In order to await guidance from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, the prosecution asked the court to remand the prisoner. However, Sunday Ojigbo, the defendant’s attorney, requested that the remand motion be dismissed since there was insufficient proof that the defendant committed the crime. Additionally, he asked the court to grant him a generous bail. The defendant was granted bail in the amount of N400,000 with two sureties in the same amount by Magistrate R.A. Olumilua. The hearing was postponed until November 23, 2022, by the judge.
