CBN Orders Banks To Collect Old N500, N1000 Notes

After so much confusion and argument, Central bank of Nigeria has allowed commercial banks to collect old note. The Central Bank of Nigeria has directed banks to begin collecting old N500 and N1,000 notes from the public as soon as possible. The greatest amount that banks may collect, however, is N500,000. According to the CBN, the former currencies were no longer legal tender. “Go to your bank, but fill out the paperwork beforehand,” a CBN officer said.  Stick with the reference code you created.  Banks will acquire your code from you.  Nevertheless, if it exceeds 500,000, you will go to the CBN and deposit it.” According to a bank source, the CBN directed the banks to collect the funds instead of traveling to the CBN headquarters due to challenges in gaining access to the bank. Before, the CBN launched a gateway on its website and required anyone who wanted to return old notes to fill out and generate a code. On Thursday, CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele directed that the old N200 notes be made accessible to Nigerians. This came after the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd. ), said that the old N200 note will be legal tender until April 10, 2023, while urged Nigerians to deposit their old N500 and 1000 notes with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Nevertheless, following a meeting with bank officials, the CBN ordered banks to collect greater denominations due to demonstrations in several areas about the paucity of the new naira notes.

Teen Girl Buries Her Own New Born Alive In Akwa Ibom

18-year-old girl in Akwa Ibom buried her own new born baby simply because it was an unwanted pregnancy A young girl buried her newborn baby alive in Ifa Ikot Okpon village, Uyo Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom state, only minutes after giving birth. According to reports, the 18-year-old girl known only as Bright did not want the baby after giving birth and was forced to bury her in a small hole she dug in a yard within a complex on Wednesday, February 15, 2023. The girl, who lives with her parents in a leased flat, told Premium Times that she didn’t realize she was pregnant until she gave birth. Nevertheless, based on what her father, Okon Ekpenyong, and others acquainted with the incident have claimed, she appears to have lied. “My body was bothering me.  I suddenly dropped down here (referring to the area where she buried the baby), and I saw a baby emerge from my body.  I started crying,? she sobbed. “The infant had died.  I was unconscious.  I dug a tiny hole to hold the baby until my mother returned so I could show her,? she explained. Mum Dumps Newborn Inside Toilet In Kano

A new baby in Kano state has been rescued after mother dumps the baby in Toilet shortly after the childbirth Officials from the Kano Fire Department rescued a kid who had been put into a pit latrine by his mentally challenged mother. The newborn baby girl was recovered alive shortly after her mentally unstable mother, named as Hauwa Muhammed, dropped her into a pit latrine. “On Wednesday, February 15, 2023, the state fire service got an emergency call at around 10:49 am, from one of our personnel, Ibrahim Umar Muhammad reporting an event that transpired in Sabon Titi Gidan Kankara Kano Municipal,” stated Fire Service spokesperson Saminu Abduallahi. “The fire service workers mobilized and arrived the spot at approximately 10:54 am and discovered that a 25-year-old, woman, named as Huawa Muhamed, who is mentally disordered abruptly tossed her newborn baby into a pit latrine. “But, upon arriving at the site, our firemen leapt into action and successfully saved the infant alive, handing her over to her grandpa, Abubakar Umar Usman of Sabon Titi quarters.” Abdullahi, on the other hand, stated that an inquiry into the event has begun.

Old Naira Note Still Valid, Legal – Supreme Court

The apex court in Nigeria, also known as Supreme court has affirmed validity of old Naira notes in Nigeria The Supreme Court upheld the use of old 200, 500, and 1000 naira notes on Wednesday. The top court upheld the February 8 hearing, which halted the execution of the February 10 deadline restriction on the use of outdated naira notes. The court’s explanation came in response to a complaint filed by Abdulhakeem Mustapha (SAN), a lawyer for the states of Kaduna, Kogi, and Zamfara, respectively. According to Newsmen, a seven-member Supreme Court bench unanimously issued an interim injunction last Wednesday preventing the Federal Government from enforcing the Central Bank of Nigeria’s February 10 deadline for exchanging old naira notes for new ones. The decision followed an ex-parte motion filed on behalf of three northern states, Kaduna, Kogi, and Zamfara, who launched a complaint on February 3rd seeking to prevent the CBN’s policy execution. The Supreme Court deferred a hearing in the case prohibiting the use of the old naira until Wednesday, February 22, 2023. This comes after nine states joined the complaint originally filed by Kogi, Kaduna, and Zamfara. The additional claimants are from Katsina, Lagos, Cross River, Ogun, Ekiti, Ondo, and Sokoto states, bringing the total number of plaintiffs to ten.  Edo and Bayelsa, on the other hand, have petitioned to be joined as respondents. The seven-member panel, chaired by Justice John Okoro, ruled that their processes be combined so that they may be heard as one. However, Mustapha stated during the hearing that the top government and its agencies reportedly instructed the rejection of the old notes, hence failing to comply with the February 8 court ruling....
