A Kenyan man who got angry at his ex-wife for remarrying another man set wrong house on fire On Monday, January 16, 2023, a magistrate court in Runyejes, Embu County, Kenya, granted police permission to hold a man suspected of an arson assault that killed seven members of the same family. On the morning of October 2, 2022, the suspect, Mr Boaz Wanjala, who was looking for his divorced wife, set fire to a residence in Ngimari village in Embu County, leaving anguish and horror in his wake. Charles Kariuki, 50, and his wife Catherine Wanjiru, 46, were killed, as were their three children, Joel Njeru, Judy Wanjiku, and Maryanne Murugi. Maryanne was preparing for the November Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam. Tumaini Blessings and Prince Baraka, the couple’s two grandkids, were also killed in the event. During a somber burial attended by local dignitaries headed by Governor Cecily Mbarire, the victims were put to rest side by side in the same cemetery. The culprit, who had been on the run since the attack, was apprehended last Friday after it was discovered that he had set fire to the incorrect residence. He had planned to murder his estranged wife. It is thought that the suspect had a falling out with his wife, who departed their marriage and later married another guy from Embu County.
