A woman convicted of killing two of her own young daughters in revenge plot on ex-husband over their estranged marriage A mother from Virginia was convicted of killing her two young kids in an effort to get revenge on her ex-husband, who was about to leave with one of the girls. According to the Washington Post, Veronica Youngblood, 37, confessed killing her children Brooklynn Youngblood, 5, and Sharon Castro, 15, but she claimed she was not guilty by reason of insanity. The jury, meanwhile, was not persuaded that the killings were significantly influenced by mental illness. Youngblood, a former sex worker who defense lawyers claimed had experienced physical and sexual abuse at the hands of her own family, was found guilty on March 22 of two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of felony firearm use. Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Kelsey Gill of Fairfax County portrayed Youngblood as a spiteful, self-centered, and planned murderer during the trial. She called her ex-husband, Ron Youngblood, as her teenage daughter lay dying to tell him she hated him and had shot the kids. He had intended to relocate to Missouri with the couple’s youngest child. According to the Washington Post, the prosecution claimed that she killed the kids as retaliation.
