Actress Remanded In Prison For Spraying New Naira In Party

A Nigerian Actress in trouble and been remanded in prison for spraying and stepping on the new redesigned Naira notes at a party On Monday, February 13, Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of a Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos ruled that Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin, a Nollywood actress who had been detained for tampering with the new Naira notes, be held in Kirikiri awaiting the outcome of her bail plea. On February 1, 2023, near Awolowo Road in Ikoyi, Lagos, Omoseyin was detained by agents of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Fraud Related Offences Commission, or ICPC. He was then turned over to the EFCC for further investigation. Following the internet publication of a video showing the 31-year-old splashing and trampling the freshly redesigned Naira notes at a party, the woman was taken into custody.  She stated in her testimony to the Commission that she was given the fresh Naira notes during the celebration by her followers and that she was unfamiliar with the donors of the funds. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) presented a two-count accusation against Omoseyin at her arraignment before Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke. The count for one item reads, That on January 28, 2023, while dancing at the Monarch Event Center in Lekki, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, you Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin tampered with the sum of N100,000 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying it there, and you did so in violation of and in violation of section 21 (1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007....

Emefiele Finally Appears Before Reps Committee Over New Naira Notes

CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele finally appears before Lawmakers ad-hoc committee over the re-designed Naira Godwin Emefiele, the CBN’s governor, is appearing before the House of Representatives’ special committee looking into the shortage of fresh naira notes. Speaking to the committee, Mr. Emefiele said that he had been out of the country and had thus been unable to accept earlier invitations. He stated that the CBN’s activities on the redesign of the naira were in accordance with global best practices and that the apex bank must have control over the currency in circulation. According to Mr. Emefiele, the amount of money in circulation was N1.4 trillion in 2015 and N3.33 trillion in 2016. He clarified that the purpose of ordering banks to guarantee that only ATM withdrawals were permitted was to restrict the amount that any one person may withdraw daily. The head of the CBN bemoaned the recent occurrence of the new notes at gatherings and said that he was meeting with commercial banks to address this. The 61-year-old acknowledged that some people will be harmed by the measures, but he insisted that the country needed them, particularly to battle instability. Despite earlier demands and letters stating that he was in the US on a crucial assignment, Emefiele had declined to appear before the MPs. Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, continued by saying that he would not think twice about asking Usman Baba Alkali, the Inspector General of Police, to issue an arrest warrant for Emiefele in order to compel him to come before the House. Emefiele said that many of the banks were hoarding the new notes, but the lack of the notes compelled the House to form an ad hoc committee to discuss the issues between the CBN and commercial banks. The 31 January limit for utilization was set by the apex bank.

Election Tribunal in Osun State has sacked Governor Adeleke and ruled in favor of Gboyega oyetola of APC Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun, has been fired by the Election Petition Tribunal, which is presided over by Justice Tertse Kume. Adegboyega Oyetola should get the Certificate of Return that had been given to Adeleke, according to the majority decision of two judges against one. Lagos Govt Mandates Health Insurance For Lagos Residents

The people living in Lagos state are under compulsion by the Lagos State Government to register for Health Insurance No of their socioeconomic situation, all citizens of Lagos State must have health insurance, according to the state administration. The Lagos State Health Management Agency’s 2022 Ilera Eko Day was when the Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola, made this announcement. In his keynote presentation, Muri-Okunola stated that the state administration was committed to ensuring that all inhabitants have access to healthcare. “The Lagos State health insurance program is intended for all state residents, not only public personnel.  The health sector has been a priority for Governor Babajide Sanwo-administration, Olu’s and one of the objectives in the health sector is to guarantee that all citizens have access to healthcare. It is intended for all residents, regardless of their circumstances or socioeconomic background.  The beneficiaries will be made aware of their rights and obligations when they are able to receive healthcare thanks to the enrollee handbook and bill of rights. Everyone in Lagos State is required to have health insurance, regardless of their socioeconomic status, regardless of their ethnicity, whether they are poor or part of corporate Lagos, the informal sector, whether they are an adult or a child, he said. “Ilera Eko is the Social Health Insurance of Lagos State, backed by the Lagos State Health Scheme Law of 2015,” he said. Earlier at the ceremony, Prof. Akin Abayomi, the state commissioner for health, said the government was aiming to raise the caliber of services provided by state health institutions. The General Manager of LASHMA, Dr. Emmanuella Zamba, represented Abayomi at the occasion. She stated, “Since the start of the Ilera Eko Social Health Plan, we have made tangible efforts towards enhancing healthcare service delivery on the Scheme. “The agency has raised the Ilera Eko plan’s health benefits, and several provider-improvement measures are also being put into place solely to make sure all of our clients receive high-quality medical care,” the agency stated....

Fuel Scarcity Worsens, Stations To Sell Petrol N270/litre

The ongoing fuel scarcity in Nigeria since 2022 has hit the roof as filling stations nationwide already selling for N300 per litre As the country’s petrol crisis persists, oil merchants have accused the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited of politicizing the supply process and making empty promises. Despite assurances from the Managing Director of the NNPCL Retail, Hubb Stocksman, in December that they would receive direct product supply at the government-regulated price of N148/litre from this month, oil marketers under the aegis of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria claimed they had received fuel. “There has yet to be any product supply.  Well, the man (Stockman) has been in Nigeria for a while and is probably ahead of us. He’s playing politics, and we don’t see the situation improving anytime soon,” Akin Akinrinade, Chairman of Satellite Depot, IPMAN, told Newsmen. This was said by an IPMAN official when gasoline lines deteriorated on Wednesday. Akinrinade also stated that as of last Friday, marketers purchased items from depots for N235-N240 per litre, claiming that they would never sell products for less than N270/litre even inside the Lagos city. The notorious online celebrity was detained in Romania in December 2022, along with his brother and two helpers. During the weekend, Romanian police announced the seizure of roughly $4 million in Tate’s assets over the last week as he and his brother are being probed for human trafficking and rape. On Saturday, January 14, Reuters broadcast video of Romanian officials collecting multiple high-value automobiles, including a Rolls Royce, a BMW, and a Mercedes Benz, at a site painted with a giant “Tate” sign. According to ANABI, the seizures were carried out on the directions of prosecutors from the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism. Tate, who is currently in Romanian detention, turned to Twitter after his assets were confiscated to maintain his innocence. He wrote on Twitter: “Anyone who believes I am a human trafficker should go get their tenth immunization. “In our case file, there are no victims and no evidence of any crime. “They’ve arrested me in order to ‘search’ for evidence, which they won’t discover since it doesn’t exist.”

Again, Unknown Gunmen Attack INEC Office In Enugu

Another attack has happened in Enugu as unidentified gunmen stormed INEC office to destroy voting materials On Sunday, January 15, unidentified gunmen stormed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Enugu South Local Government Area, killing one police officer. According to a statement issued by INEC National Commissioner Festus Okoye, the resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Enugu State, Dr. Chukwuemeka J. Chukwu, the commission’s office in Enugu South Local Government Area was assaulted by unknown gunmen at around 9.12pm on Sunday. “The security gatehouse was demolished.  Fortunately, the assailants were unable to gain entrance to the main building due to the quick response of Police and Army officers from the 82 Division. The State Commissioner of Police and the REC arrived on the spot as soon as they received word of the incident. “Of the two police officers assigned to protect the facility, one died, while the other was injured and is being treated,” he added. Security authorities are investigating the event, according to Okoye. “Meanwhile, the demolished gatehouse will be repaired, and the Commission will continue with its preparations for the 2023 General Election in Enugu State and throughout the country,” Okoye stated.
