Family of a patient in delta State are allegedly responsible for the gruesome death of doctor in charge
The Nigerian Medical Association has denounced the murder of Dr. Uyi Iluobe by patients’ families at a hospital in Oghara, Delta State.
Dr. Uche Ojinmah, the association’s president, stated on January 2 that Iluobe was killed on December 31, 2022.
He asked the National Assembly to make it a crime in the nation to attack healthcare personnel.
“The news of Dr. Iluobe’s murder on December 31, 2022, by the family members of a patient in Oghara, where his practice was headquartered, was greeted by the Nigerian Medical Association with shock and grief.
“The aforementioned situation, which is the reaction of the patient’s family to their loss due to alleged gunshot wounds, can never be justified and has escalated violence against physicians and other healthcare professionals from assault to murder.
“It is ridiculous that the same Nigerians are killing the few physicians who patriotically chose to stay back and care for our fellow compatriots in the face of a crippling medical brain drain.
“While we sympathize for the family of the patient who passed away, we vehemently condemn this murder and demand that the Governor of Delta State and the Inspector-General of Police act immediately to apprehend those responsible in order to ease our suffering.
A guy shouldn’t be killed because he performed a noble task on New Year’s Eve.
