18-year-old girl arrested by Enugu Police for killing her child immediately after birth

According to a statement made by the state police command’s spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, early evidence indicates that the mother of the newborn infant killed the kid with a kitchen knife shortly after giving birth at home, acting on advice from her mother.
Ndukwe claimed that after being brought to the hospital, the on-call doctors declared the child dead, and the body was then placed in the mortuary for preservation and an autopsy.
The police PRO said that the state commissioner of police had urged local residents, especially the women who had staged a nonviolent protest to denounce the act, to keep the peace and abstain from actions that would destabilise law and order in the neighbourhood.
