Filmmaker, Seun Egbegbe, eventually freed after years in jail
After three years and six months in jail, filmmaker Olajide Kareem, aka Seun Egbegbe, has been released.
On February 10, 2017, the film producer was sentenced to prison for receiving N39 million, $90,000, and £12,550 unlawfully from over forty Bureau De Change Operators in Lagos between 2015 and March 2017.
Egbegbe, the chairman of Ebony Production, reportedly defrauded the BDC operators by pretending to have naira to exchange for foreign currency and vice versa.
Only one of the 44 counts against him was declared guilty by the Federal High Court in Ikoyi.
Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo ruled that 43 of the 44 Count accusations were thrown out due to a lack of witnesses to back up their statements.
The filmmaker was then condemned to prison by Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo.
Egbegbe was released from prison yesterday, October 11, 2022, after serving 42 months.
