English Premier League and FA cancel all football this weekend
Due to Queen Elizabeth’s passing, all games this weekend have been postponed by the Premier League and the Football Association.
To decide the course of action for the remainder of this weekend’s calendar, the Department for Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport (DCMS) held a call with representatives from all major sports at 9.30am.
The DCMS left the decision regarding events up to the individual organizations.
To honor Queen Elizabeth’s “exceptional life and commitment to the nation,” according to a statement from the Premier League and EFL, this weekend’s games will be postponed.
The Premier League issued the following statement: “Premier League teams paid respect to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II during a meeting this morning [Friday].
‘As our longest-serving monarch, she has been an inspiration and leaves behind an incredible legacy following a life of dedication.
‘This is a tremendously sad time for not just the nation but also for the millions of people around the world who admired her, and we join together with all those in mourning her passing.’
According to the Daily Telegraph, there are now concerns about football taking place next week with police set to be redeployed to the Queen’s funeral in London.
